Tourism Tasmania: The Off Season
TORCHING THE TOURISM CLICHES TO TURN WINTER BLACK AND WHITE

Winter is when Tasmania lets its hair down and its idiosyncrasies truly shine.
Winter is where Tasmania gets a bit 'Off'. This iteration of 'The Off Season' is shot entirely in black and white.
Artist and photojournalist Stephen Dupont captures the unique ways Tasmanians embrace the winter season - from the fiery celebrations of the solstice to the bracing cold of an icy plunge.
A bit weird, wild, and woolly, it’s especially different, a bit ‘off’.

Whether it's the almighty roar of a pagan bonfire, the hiss of a lakeside sauna, the beautiful mess of a seafood feast or the throb of a festival stage, Tasmania in winter is anything but chill.
The Off Season celebrates the colder, darker months, and everything weird and wonderful that comes with it.

The Off Season Is Calling.

A stark contrast to the warm hues of a Queensland beach, we cut through the conventional clutter by avoiding the category cliches. From Wim Hof breathing in icy water, death metal concerts, and pagan bonfires, we shot real Tasmanians embracing the real spirit of winter.
And in doing so, captured the creative edginess of the Tasmanian winter, allowing the audience to focus not on a location or attraction, but a feeling.

At our heart, we’re still a bit different, a bit off.
And winter is our best kept secret.
